The Department of Bridges was established in 1930 – within the first year of the HEI existence. During the history of the Department, its teachers have written numerous textbooks and manuals. The initial experience of testing bridges showed that the simplified theoretical methods of calculation that had been used earlier did not always coincide well with the data of field experiments (tests). The teachers of the Department began to develop actively theoretical problems of spatial calculation of bridges. The Department was one of the first units at the university to introduce computers in the educational process.
