In 1960, he graduated from the construction faculty of the Kharkiv Institute of Railway Transport Engineers. In 1960-65, he was an engineer of the Ukrainian branch of the Hidroproekt design institute named after S. Ya. Zhuka. In 1965-68, he was a graduate student at the Department of Reinforced Concrete Structures of the Kharkiv Engineering and Construction Institute. Since 1969 – candidate of technical sciences. In 1969-1990, he was an associate professor, professor of the Department of Construction Mechanics of the Kharkiv Automobile and Road Institute. Since 1985 - doctor of technical sciences. From 1990-2011 - Head of the Department of Construction Mechanics and Hydraulics of UkrDAZT. From 2000-2011 part-time professor of the Department of Bridges, Structures and Construction Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences. In 2004-2006, he was the part-time head of the Department of Bridges, Structures and Construction Mechanics. 

The main directions of scientific research are the development of the theory of calculation of reinforced concrete structures and the solution of the problem of fire resistance of structures.  

Author of more than 300 scientific works, including eight textbooks. Trained 25 candidates and 2 doctors of technical sciences.
