The Department was set up in 1932 under the leadership of Professor M. Volkov.

Over the years of the Department functioning, 133 PhDs, 6 Doctors of Technical Sciences, 19 Professors have been trained, numerous textbooks and manuals have been published. The main scientific direction of the Department is "Physical and chemical mechanics of road-building materials". Within this area, significant advances have been made in the field of rational use of industrial by-products in road construction.

Significant volumes of contractual work allowed the Department setting up modern research and training laboratories. At the Department the laboratories of rheology of bitumen and asphalt concrete, as well as physical and chemical methods of research are functioning.  Read more...
